Exhibition Statement

Sage Culture is pleased to present ‘Aura,’ the gallery’s spring group show featuring works by Valéria Nascimento, Søren Solkaer, Michal Fargo, Mitch Iburg, and Zoë Powell. The exhibition continues with the gallery’s tradition to honor the natural world, featuring artists who, by using mainly natural materials, can translate this sublime experience into artistic expressions. Aura is a Greek and Roman deity whose name means ‘ breeze’ and who inspired the atmosphere of this exhibit—a vernal zephyr, celebrating the beginning of spring.

The selection of works is defined by serenity, and the elements of the season are present in diverse ways. Valeria Nascimento’s ethereal porcelain installations honor the flora. Soren Solkaer’s “Black Sun” series depicts the extraordinary phenomena of birds migration, transitioning to the subtle element of air. This same element, floating over surfaces and forming landscapes, is part of “Soft Topography,” the new sculptural series from the artist Michal Fargo. Finally, the earth, the grounded element, which represents the foundation of everything, makes its presence through the fascinating ceramic pieces of Mitch Iburg and Zoë Powell.

* Due to the progression of COVID-19 and current recommendations from the World Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control, this exhibition is available for online viewing only View the online catalogue here. Additional works can be found on Artsy .
